THE CHINA MISSION
The Bible Christian Magazine,November,1884:530-531.
THE Missionary Committee,by its decision,in simple dependence on God,to carry at once into effect the resolution of the Conference to open a mission in China, has taken a heavy responsibility on itself, and cast a not less heavy responsibility on our churches.Responsibility,we say,and rightly, but if the work be undertaken at Christ's bidding and in His name, the open door he has set before us will be esteemed a solemn and joyful privilege also. The offer of the brethren J.H.Batt and T.G.Vanstone to serve Christ and His Church in China, has been provisionally accepted.Contributions are to be invited from our friends, but no pressure is to be put on them, beyond diffusing among them through the Magazine and other mediums the information required to show the strong, the irresistible claim that China has upon the churches as a field for missionary labour. The brethren are requested to talk about the subject in our missionary meetings, and the directors of the China Inland Mission are to be asked to arrange that our brethren shall at first, and until they have acquired sufficient experience, labour under their auspices. The work is to begin when the funds are subscribed. The matter is thus laid upon the hearts and consciences of our people, and with them rests the momentous decision. No step must be taken that will involve the Connexion in further financial difficulty and embarrassment.A thousand pounds extra is needed this year, if the work is to begin at the next Conference, and the additional expenses which this year we know will come on the Missionary Society, are met,and the partial relief to our funds which has been in operation for a year or two is to continue. The reinforcement of the labourers in South Australia, the extension of the work at Cardiff and other places at home, the increase in the number of married ministers, the sickness that has overtaken some beloved brethren, and the accident that has befallen another, will prevent the expenditure being kept down to the same point as it was last year.We believe that every minister, and tens of thousands of our members, will be ready to do all that is necessary to prevent any increase of debt. And that this may not be the case the income must be increased.Let the fact be borne in mind throughout the year, and in every place, more especially at the time when the missionary meeting is held, and we do not fear the result. In the wonderful blessing which the Lord gave to our missions in Victoria last year, and the blessing which He is still giving them, and in the prospect of enlargement and prosperity in other places,we may find the needful stimulus and encouragement to go forward in our work,"attempting greater things for God,and expecting greater things from Him."Brethren,"have faith in God."Subscriptions may be sent either to the President,40,Princess Road,Kilburn,N.W.,or to the Treasurer,14,Belmont Road,Clapham,S.W.
简述:
11月的杂志上报道了10月份传 道委员会的决议:会议正式通过了建立China Mission的构想。不过,这新增的禾场,所能得到的资金支持还远远未能如愿。如他们所说,这一切都先行动起来,剩下的交给God!
