BANDITS RAID KOPU,KWEICHOW,C.I.M.REPORTS
Town Where Two Mission Schools Are Located Visited By Brigands
A report received on Monday by the local branch of the China Inland Mission states that a bandit outrage was experienced a short while ago in the town of Kopu,Kweichow province where the C.I.M. has two large schools for Chinese boys and girls.
Mr.and Mrs.Baker,and Mr.and Mrs.Windsor of the missionary organization arrived in Kopu where they were to lake up then duties in connection with the opening of schools in that place early this month and two days after arrival a party of about 300 bandits descended upon the town,with a focusing point upon the mission quarters.Everything in sight was ransacked and at the point of guns the missionaries were forced to surrender their valuables even to the spectacles which they wore.The outrage occurred early in the morning and entirely without warning. After carrying off what valuables they could the bandits went into the mission school where they took several boy and girl students off with them.The children are being held for ransom.It is stated that Kweichow is the seat of several of these bandit bands at the present time and that marauding expeditions are being constantly made into the smaller towns in the province. Kopu the scene of the latest out rage is one of the China Inland Mission's largest centers of Christian work. About 500 Chinese Christians are resident here.
